A Special Presentation of Butter Together

About this event

@

Join Sarah Pratt, official butter sculptor for the Iowa State Fair, at the Sioux City Art Center on December 3 for a fun and interactive workshop celebrating Iowa’s beloved butter art tradition.

The session begins with a brief history of butter sculpting, the butter cow’s significance in the Iowa State Fair, and Pratt’s journey from apprentice to artist. Then, participants will create their own butter sculptures — transforming a simple stick of butter into buildings, people, or anything that represents community. Together, the group will build a “Butter” Community.

This program coincides with the Art Center’s Pasture to Present exhibit and the display of Red Grooms’ large “Agricultural Building” sculpture, which includes many nods to the Iowa State Fair — including a sculpture of a butter cow sculptor and butter cow. Visit the sculpture in the atrium on your way to participate in “Butter Together” with the real butter cow sculptor!
