COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Over December, Security National Bank gathered 5,371 boxes of Mac and Cheese to support families in need by stacking them under a Christmas tree in its downtown lobby. The Food Bank of Siouxland will receive the donations later this month for distribution to local food pantries.  KTIV
  • Father David Esquiliano, a priest, Judicial Vicar, and board president of Siouxland Soup Kitchen, became a US citizen in December after an 18-year journey that began when he came alone from Chetumal in 2007 + he now provides masses in English, Spanish, and Latin to bridge cultures in the community.  KTIV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Sioux City welcomed its first Raising Cane’s, adding a fast-casual dining option to the local market + the new restaurant is expected to draw community members looking for a fresh taste in fast food.  KTIV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Iowa DNR will release rainbow trout in nine fishing spots, including Bacon Creek Lake in Sioux City on Jan. 22 at 1 p.m. + Scharnberg Pond in Spencer on Feb. 7, to offer families a winter trout fishing experience.  KTIV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new Iowa law removes the 21-year age limit for Autism diagnosis and treatment and eliminates the ($36,000) annual cap on state insurance coverage while preserving minimum benefits that include at least 30 inpatient days and 52 outpatient visits.  KTIV
  • Tax season in Sioux City will be paperless this year; residents filing 2025 taxes must use direct deposit options including bank accounts or mobile apps, and the VITA program is offering free help for those on fixed income — appointments require valid ID and necessary tax forms.  KTIV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Bird flu is killing geese in North Sioux City's McCook Lake, according to South Dakota Game Fish and Parks + the agency said the outbreak is due to avian influenza during migration season and is not linked to current lake restoration efforts.  KTIV
