  • Farmer Bart Peterson of the Moville farm cares for sheep, lambs, and cattle in freezing weather — on Friday, he layered up and checked water buckets every few hours to keep his animals warm during the lambing season that began around the holidays.  KTIV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Craig Moss (a fifth-generation cattleman from Hull) is elected president of the Iowa Cattlemen's Association and will serve a one-year term with the option to run again; he said his priorities are property rights, profitability, and a commitment to advocacy across the beef industry.  KTIV
  • A new fast-food restaurant may soon open on Sioux City's west side after the Planning and Zoning Commission approved a rezoning request on Jan. 13 (clearing the way for future development).  Sioux City Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Woodbury County is celebrating its 175th birthday this January, recalling that it was originally called Wahkaw — derived from the Sioux word for 'big medicine' — before lawmakers renamed it in 1853 to honor Levi Woodbury, a key federal figure.  KTIV
  • Sioux City Railroad Museum received a $1.9M National Park Service grant to help restore damage from the June 2024 flood, and the funding will support ongoing recovery work.  Sioux City Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Last Thursday, North High School hosted its 5th Annual Food Truck Wars where students learned hands-on cooking and business skills by designing menus and pricing items. They competed with dishes like smash burgers, Bahn Mi and wraps to put their creativity to the test.  KTIV

FINANCE NEWS

  • Sioux City resident Adela Salazar won a $25,000 lottery prize from the X-tra Bingo scratch game after buying her winning ticket at Bajrang Mart — 923 W. Seventh St. She claimed her prize shortly after her purchase.  Sioux City Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Four downtown crossings—Jackson, Virginia, Court and Iowa—join the quiet zone on Friday, Jan. 30 to cut train horn noise for residents and businesses. City officials said new 'No Train Horn' signs will be installed at these intersections.  KTIV
  • Sioux City Transit now offers mobile ticketing that lets riders pay by tapping the MyRide Sioux City Smart Card or mobile app—improving convenience when boarding.  Sioux City Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • UnityPoint Health-St. Luke’s now offers free valet service at its northside location on Pierce Street. The service runs from 5 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (helping patients, family members, and visitors).  KTIV
