COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Cone Park held its annual All Abilities Night on Monday, Jan. 26 — 225 registered guests enjoyed tubing, snowshoeing, ax-throwing and sled hockey while warming up indoors with hot chocolate and cookies provided by local partners.  KTIV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Violins of Hope Iowa will host events during Tolerance Week starting Wednesday, April 22 in Sioux City; nearly 2,000 8th graders will join a morning session at the Orpheum Theatre, and a free chamber performance (at the Holocaust Rails Exhibit) is planned for Thursday, April 23.  KTIV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Sioux Honey Association’s $130 million expansion got approval Monday, Jan. 26, as it plans to move to a renovated warehouse at 2501 Expedition Court and create nearly 40 new jobs. The council also approved steps to nominate the Pearl Street Historic District to the National Register with grant funds.  KTIV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The school board is searching for an interim superintendent after Dr. Juan Cordova resigned — leaving Associate Superintendent Angela Bemus to manage daily operations. The board will consider internal candidates and hold a public work session Monday, Feb. 9 at 4:00 p.m. to decide on a contract through June 30.  KTIV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sen. Catelin Drey shared today on the Senate floor that she has stage one uterine cancer—she will soon have a hysterectomy and update her recovery progress as she continues serving northern Sioux City.  KTIV
  • Sioux City Council amended the Donner Park Urban Renewal Plan and approved an economic development assistance contract on Monday, Jan. 26 to let Sioux Honey Association move forward with its $130 million project in the city.  Sioux City Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Siouxland Community Cancer Coalition will host a public meeting on Thursday at 9 a.m. at Western Iowa Tech Community College's Rocklin Conference Center, where residents, business leaders and officials can learn about Woodbury County cancer data and resources (livestream available for remote attendees).  KTIV
