- ➤ Sioux City volunteers will count the homeless population as part of the annual point-in-time survey that asks where people slept last night. Teams depart at 4 a.m. tomorrow and a resource fair at the public museum (1-3 p.m.) will offer care packages to connect locals with services. KTIV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Angela Bemus, the associate superintendent who has been acting superintendent since Nov. 1, announced Tuesday she will not seek the interim role beyond March 31 due to extra workload without additional pay. The district will now search for a leader aligned with the board’s vision. KTIV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Sioux City planning officials discussed the 'Vacant to Vibrant' initiative to sell about 40 city-owned lots for single-family homes; the city plans to begin seeking buyers this spring to lower maintenance costs + add housing options. KTIV
- ➤ Sioux City Transit introduces the My Ride Sioux City app to pay bus fares faster and easier. Riders can add funds, scan QR codes for fare capping — lower charges on multiple rides — and use smart cards while cash remains accepted. KTIV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Siouxland District Health launched the 'Care For Yourself' program to let uninsured and low-income women in Woodbury, Plymouth, Cherokee, Sioux, Lyon, O'Brien, Ida, Clay and Palo Alto counties — as well as eligible residents from Nebraska and South Dakota — access breast and cervical cancer screenings through their own provider.
