- ➤ Sioux City NAACP hosted a free concert at Eppley Auditorium on Morningside University’s campus honoring Coretta Scott King; the event featured local opera singers + choirs with narration by NAACP president Monique Scarlett. KTIV
- ➤ Loess Hills Wild Ones is hosting a free native gardening event on March 7 at 1 p.m. at the Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center, where local residents can learn about native plants. Sioux City Journal
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Sioux Honey Association announced a three-phase expansion that will relocate its Anaheim operations to Sioux City, starting with warehouse upgrades in January 2027 near Sioux Gateway Airport and adding up to 39 local jobs as part of a $130 million investment to double honey production. KTIV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Spalding Park Environmental Sciences Elementary students raised 11,028 dimes for Siouxland Humane Society during their 100th day of school celebration on Tuesday, Feb. 3. The school presented a $1,102 check, and teacher Laura Lewis led the effort + inspired further support for local pets. KTIV
- ➤ Dordt University launched its new Master of Science in Nursing (Family Nurse Practitioner program) which will start in fall. The program combines online coursework with 750 hours of clinical practice so working nurses can remain in their communities. KTIV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Heartland Counseling Services broke ground on a new crisis stabilization unit and detox center in South Sioux City — the center will offer 12 mental health beds and 12 detox beds to support local care. Sioux City Journal
- ➤ Sioux City hospital submitted paperwork on Wednesday to the Iowa Department of Health & Human Services for an open-heart surgery program & the chance to offer advanced heart care. Hospital officials said the step begins a thorough review & could lead to new local services. Sioux City Journal
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Crews delivered over 2,000 tons of dirt in 80 truckloads onto Tyson Events Center's ice rink to form a ten-inch base for bull riding, barrel racing and bronc riding at the Bomgaars Rodeo this weekend — crews will work full day to clear the dirt before next week's hockey game. KTIV
