CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Sioux City man pleaded guilty to intimidating a bartender by brandishing a loaded handgun at a local bar and was sentenced to five years in federal prison—he is currently held in U.S. Marshal custody until his transfer. KTIV
- ➤ Sioux City police identified a stabbing victim found in the Morningside area—officers said the incident was domestic in nature. Sioux City Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Sioux City Community School District met Tuesday to review a new AI policy that will guide students on proper technology use plus discuss changes to the retention rules that let parents decide if a student should repeat a grade when they are behind in reading. KTIV
- ➤ Alta Elementary celebrated receiving an 'Exceptional' rating from the Iowa Department of Education on Wednesday during a pep rally — one of only 16 schools among nearly 1300 earning this score. The school scored 78.36%, well above the state average of 60.95% — setting a high mark as students prepare for next week’s tests. KTIV
- ➤ Students, parents and instructors from Sioux City's Air Force JROTC program spoke to the school board on Monday to defend the program's impact—following the board's March 10 rejection of an Air Force agreement due to language changes and low enrollment—and officials must now decide if they will revise the deal before March 31. - ➤ Woodbury County voters will soon receive mailers that help update voter registration records—voters who changed their addresses or did not vote in the 2024 General Election should follow the instructions to reactivate their status. KTIV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Mitchell Hospice House held a tour for community members during its grand opening celebration earlier this week. The non-profit facility will officially open Monday, March 31 and offer nine rooms (with meals, room and board and family spaces) for hospice care. KTIV
- ➤ St. Luke’s has unveiled a new pediatric emergency safe room designed to help children in crisis — a project funded by Siouxland Miracle Riders during their ninth annual Miracle Ride that covered over 6,000 miles to and from Alaska. The safe room is one of four modern spaces created to provide a calm and secure environment for patients in distress. KTIV
- ➤ Patient Matti Smith underwent a gastric sleeve procedure at CNOS after a change in her insurance allowed her to get the treatment that helps her keep up with her kids—she said the surgery eased her pain and increased her energy for family activities. KTIV will air a live special tonight at 6:30 p.m. where CNOS doctors answer questions on weight loss surgery and related options. KTIV
