COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Siouxland community members raised funds Monday night at Marto Brewing Co for the Miracle League’s upcoming spring baseball season—and the event will also support 19 athletes traveling to Cooperstown this summer through a silent auction, pretzel orders, and sales of the ‘Be the Reason’ beer. The money raised will go directly to the league’s programs and help maintain its status as the nation’s largest Miracle League by square footage. KTIV
- ➤ Camp High Hopes’ annual RibFest returns this summer—this BBQ cook-off at Battery Park at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino will run from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on June 21 and will raise funds for Camp High Hopes. SiouxlandProud
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Sioux City Fire Rescue was called at 6 p.m. Monday night to a fire at the Smurfit Westrock facility at 2300 Bridgeport Drive, where a piece of machinery caught fire and workers evacuated while crews quickly put out the blaze—investigators are checking the damage with no injuries reported. KTIV
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Sioux City Police responded to attempted ATM thefts at Pioneer Bank on 4700 Singing Hills Blvd on March 31 at 3:35 a.m. and at Wells Fargo Bank on 4360 Sergeant Road on April 1 at 4:10 a.m.—officers noted the Wells Fargo machine was partially removed from its base by a running truck with a chain attached, no money was taken, and detectives are investigating both incidents. - ➤ James Foster, Jr. died on August 20th after a Sioux City Fire Rescue paramedic allegedly gave him the wrong medication, leaving behind two young daughters and a partner while the paramedic, Deanna LaMere — who is no longer employed and has pleaded not guilty — awaits a court appearance in April. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Morningside University announced it received a $2.5 million gift from the Curt and Linda White Family Trust to fund projects that will expand academic programs, improve on-campus resources, and advance experiential learning. The donation by Sioux City native Curt White—a former baseball player and board member—supports plans to further the university’s mission. KTIV
- ➤ Sioux City Community School District said it investigated a rumor of an incident involving a student with a weapon at East Middle School yesterday and found no evidence of any danger—urging families to report any safety concerns they see. SiouxlandProud

- ➤ Notices for property assessments were mailed on March 26 based on 2024 sales, and the average home value in Sioux City increased 10%. Homeowners can request an informal review at the Woodbury County Courthouse from today through April 25 — a formal appeal option is available until April 30. Sioux City Journal
- ➤ Sioux City Police Department reminded residents to keep the city clean after several complaints and warned that littering may lead to fines from $105 to $855+court costs or up to 30 days in jail. KTIV
