COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The no-wake restriction at McCook Lake was lifted on April 1 as the lake association began refilling the water for summer recreation, with officials noting that minor debris remains and some residents continue to petition for caution. South Dakota Game & Parks advises boaters to stay alert for hazards.  KTIV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Marion Heritage Center and Museum curator David Wendell stressed Iowa’s historical role in space exploration as the Artemis Two mission launched Wednesday evening from Florida. The exhibit features artifacts and stories including James Van Allen’s early rocket experiments (Rockoons) that highlight the state’s lasting contributions.  KTIV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fisheries crews set nets for northern pike at Big Spirit Lake on Sunday, and local teams managed the netting process this season. The DNR will begin walleye netting around April 8 and open public viewing at the Spirit Lake Fish Hatchery as weather permits (this year’s method uses local crews instead of outside help).  KTIV

HEALTH NEWS

  • LifeServe Blood Services is scheduling donation drives in April at five local sites—such as Spirit Lake High School on Apr. 8 and Lakes Regional Healthcare on Apr. 27—to boost blood supply ahead of summer demand; locals can make appointments online or by calling 800-287-4903.  KTIV

  • Sioux City Explorers will use a cashless system for tickets, concessions and merchandise during the upcoming 2026 season as all purchases require card+mobile payment. Fans should prepare for this change at the ballpark.  Sioux City Journal
