COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Sioux City’s Col. John Mansfield (ret.) recounted a Vietnam War injury in a video and will represent Iowa in the Purple Heart Patriot Project ceremonies in New State.  Sioux City Journal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Casey’s General Stores—headquartered in Ankeny—joined the S&P 500, showing strong financial growth with its 2,900 stores across 19 states. The milestone marks a key moment for the chain that began in 1968 and became publicly traded in 1983.  KTIV

CULTURE NEWS

  • LAMB Arts and Morningside University partnered to update the Klinger-Neal Theatre on campus as LAMB set aside nearly $1 million for new seating, lighting, and sound. Renovations will begin this summer.  KTIV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Registrations for Summer Art Camps at the Sioux City Art Center are now open for youth ages 7-12 in June & July, offering camps themed Color & Texture and Nature's Inspiration; August camps for younger children are also scheduled with limited openings & need-based scholarships available.  KTIV
  • At Tuesday's National Civics Bee at RE/MAX City Centre, eighth grader Michael O'Mara won for a third time as Edison Felix of Holy Cross (Bishop Heelan) and Dat Nguyen of Sioux City North advanced, while Dakota Valley's Ruth Abeta, Grace Raymond and Maddie Powell also earned spots in the state contest.  Sioux City Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Iowa DNR is seeking volunteers to count bumble bees (as part of the national Bumble Bee Atlas project) this summer with online training this month and field study days in June and July. The surveys run through October to track bee species and guide conservation.  KTIV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Kim Reynolds signed new legislation yesterday that gives licensed childcare workers working 32 hours weekly help with care for their own children; the law, signed in Slater, supports worker wages + keeps center costs low.  KTIV
  • Sioux City's Public Works is filling potholes on Floyd Blvd with more than 20 tons of asphalt; the 10-worker crew expects to finish by next week (if rain holds off) while urging drivers to slow down (for safety).  KTIV
  • South Cornelia Street emergency repairs resumed after a watermain break caused the collapse in mid-Oct 2025. The street reopened (in early January) and work continues today.  Sioux City Journal
