- ➤ The 74th annual Morningside Days will kick off on May 15 with a parade at 6:30 p.m. on Morninside Avenue — a carnival will run at the Morningside Library parking lot through May 19. Anyone wanting to join the parade should register at Drilling Pharmacy. SiouxlandProud
- ➤ 84-year-old co-founder Dorothy Westin traveled from Omaha to attend Monday's meeting at Hope Lutheran in South Sioux City (the group, originally called Light of the World, was started 18 years ago to support Siouxlanders facing vision loss). KTIV

- ➤ Veteran business owner Jesus Sanchez opened his new Irish pub—T. Foolery's at 1008 Fourth St.—on April 1 to offer a modern twist on Irish flavors in a venue that once housed the Key Club; the menu includes comfort foods and creative cocktails inspired by traditional Irish cuisine. - ➤ Barbara Den Herder, President/CEO of the Sioux Center Chamber of Commerce, was selected by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation to join a national Master Class for business leaders focused on community child care solutions. She will attend a two-day event in Boise, ID on May 5-6 & participate in virtual follow-up meetings to review expert insights and best practices. Sioux Country Radio
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A witness said she saw a man in a black hoodie shoot 36-year-old Marlon White Eyes on June 26 on 14th Street during a fight, and he ran from his apartment before collapsing. Yasin Abdi, 22 from South Sioux City, pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in Woodbury County District Court — he faces life in prison without parole if convicted. Sioux City Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Students at Leeds Elementary School learned about farming when the Iowa Agriculture Literacy Foundation brought the Seed Survivor Mobile Classroom to the school. The session gave kids hands-on lessons on how crops grow and food is made (with surveys used to check what they learned). KTIV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ North Sioux City officials will conduct a recount in two races from last week’s special election—one race had a 15 vote gap and the other was separated by two votes. Officials plan to finish the recount before the next canvassing meeting set for Thursday at 5:30 p.m.—if certified, the council will complete old business and swear in the new commission. - ➤ Sioux City Council approved the FY26 budget and amended its earlier cut to the Human Rights Commission’s funding from $140,000 to $35,480—adding $104,520 through a new levy that raises taxes $43 on each $100,000 of assessed value. Council members met for two hours to reach the agreement amid concerns over rising taxes and fiscal challenges. Sioux City Journal

- ➤ Senator Grassley congratulated Dordt University's women’s basketball team today for winning the NAIA National Championship with an 82—73 win over Indiana Wesleyan and a 35—2 record that secured their second straight title.
