COMMUNITY NEWS

  • George Foreman's family and city officials unveiled a new monument at Logan Park Cemetery on Monday, Apr. 13 to honor his wish from when he was laid to rest in April 2025; they held a press conference on April 16 to thank community helpers for their support.  KTIV
  • Products from Northwest Iowa have been nominated for the Coolest Thing Made in Iowa contest — a 60-quart cooler with wheels from Frosted Frog in Rock Valley and a toy tractor pulling sled from River Bottom Toys are among the recognized entries.  Sioux City Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Sioux City Symphony musicians have chosen restored violins that once belonged to Holocaust victims and survivors to be played during Tolerance Week next week. Organizer Gerald Weiner (a community leader) said the performance will bring hope and history to local groups.  KTIV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Four Sioux Central students laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on April 2 during a five-day school trip to Washington, D.C. and Gettysburg. The trip (organized by teacher Kelly Tate) included 29 students, seven parents and two teachers.  KTIV
  • Three Siouxland middle schools won KTIV’s Making a Difference contest by creating videos highlighting mentoring + community cleanup, academic achievement, and anti-bullying efforts. The winners will visit Arnolds Park Amusement Park next month.  KTIV
  • Sioux City Community School District announced three finalists for permanent superintendent: Tim Miller, Will Pickens III and Jim Vanderloo. Community forums on April 29 in room 118 at the Educational Service Center have forum times of 4 to 5 p.m. + 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. + 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.  KTIV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Cris Carter spoke at the Rosecrance Jackson Centers event celebrating 50 years of service, sharing his battle with addiction to encourage others to get help. The center will host Rush Hour Connect on Sept. 10 as part of its continuing celebrations.  KTIV
