ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Sioux City police say on Saturday, April 19, a speeding Infiniti QX80 lost control on Transit Avenue in the Morningside area and hit a utility pole before crashing into a home—killing 40-year-old Osmel Borrego Carlez and 26-year-old Pablo Morales Torres from Norfolk while the driver was taken to a hospital with injuries.  KTIV
  • Sioux City officials plan to improve signage at the intersection of Transit Avenue and South Cecelia Street after two fatal accidents—one in February that claimed one life and one on April 19 that claimed two—caused by speeding, and they now await the city engineer's recommendation on the best safety measures.  SiouxlandProud
  • A vehicle hit a curb at the southeast corner of Transit Avenue and South Cecelia Street, struck a utility pole, and killed two.  Sioux City Journal
  • Sioux City Police said that on Saturday, April 19 at 4:26 a.m. a speeding 2014 Infiniti QX80 lost control on Transit Avenue in the Morningside neighborhood, striking a curb, utility pole and home and killing two passengers—Osmel Borrego Carlez, 40, and Pablo Morales Torres, 26, both from Norfolk and leaving the driver injured.  SiouxlandProud

CRIME NEWS

  • Officials in Cherokee County are investigating the homicide of Christopher Wheeler after he was run over east of Cherokee at a farm in the early hours of April 21—66-year-old Richard Hammond is now in jail with no bond as witnesses said he drove fast and hit the victim before fleeing.  KTIV

CULTURE NEWS

  • The national tour of Menopause The Musical 2: Cruising Through ‘The Change’ is coming to the Orpheum stage on Oct. 21 as announced by Oak View Group — tickets go on sale Friday, April 25, at 10 a.m. for purchase online or at the Primebank Box Office at Tyson Events Center.  KTIV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • South Sioux City will start construction on Foundry Road the week of April 28 using recycled plastic from about 2 million bags—paving will begin the week of May 12 while the road and Al Bengston Bike Trail are closed for work designed to lower environmental impact. The project brings together several local partners and a grant from the Nebraska Environmental Trust to support sustainable infrastructure.  SiouxlandProud

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sioux City Council approved the annexation and rezoning of land south of the airport; the property is owned by TSI — a nonprofit that works to boost job opportunities in the region.  Sioux City Journal
  • On Monday afternoon, the city council approved a pre-design agreement authorizing HDR Engineering to plan water and sewer relocations along the Rustin Street to Virginia Street corridor affected by the Gordon Drive viaduct and Bacon Creek Conduit reconstruction—construction is scheduled to begin in 2027 and is expected to take two and a half years.  KTIV
