- ➤ Volunteers from local high schools and universities worked at Southern Hills Mall unloading over 1,000 boxes of books for the Friends of the Library annual book sale, which begins Thursday, Apr. 23 and will run until Saturday, May 2 with special hours and a $5 donation on opening night. KTIV
- ➤ Twenty-six agencies connected survivors with housing, medical care and counseling at the first Crime Victims Awareness Resource Fair held Tuesday, April 21 at the Sioux City Convention Center, and today CAASA will screen the documentary Grid Shock at Headline Event Space in Le Mars at 6:00 p.m. KTIV
- ➤ A Siouxland nonprofit is packing 20,000 meals at Sunnybrook Community Church on Sunday, Apr. 26 from 9 a.m. to noon to help flood victims in Tanzania rebuild homes, and will hold a fundraiser concert at the Lofted View on May 29 to raise funds, according to founder Steve Meyer. KTIV

- ➤ A second Jersey Mike’s Subs is coming to Lakeport Commons near Buffalo Wild Wings as signage is up plus the chain’s website shows the address as 'coming soon.' It will be the chain's second Sioux City store following the Floyd Boulevard opening in April 2025. KTIV
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Sioux City police responded on April 14 to a call about two men in the Faith Lutheran Church parking lot carrying water guns that looked like AR-style rifles and urged community education to help avoid dangerous misunderstandings. KTIV
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Country star Tracy Lawrence will perform his No Alibis Tour on Oct. 3 at the Orpheum Theatre, 528 Pierce St. — special guest Chandler Walter will join him. Sioux City Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Dordt University’s Ag Day will be held on Friday, April 24 at the campus — an event organized by students featuring a 5K race beginning at 6:15 a.m., FFA competitions for high schoolers, a petting zoo, an equipment display, and a $5 lunch from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. KTIV
- ➤ Sioux City Career Academy and Morningside University launched the Siouxland Start program to offer high school students hybrid college courses in education and nursing plus hands-on experience in a simulation lab and classroom teaching. Interim Superintendent Jim Vanderloo said the initiative will build stronger career paths for local students. KTIV
- ➤ Western Iowa Tech Community College has received a $10,000 grant to create three inclusive library spaces for quiet study, classroom work, and multisensory learning at its Denison campus + staff training and student input will help shape the design to better support students with disabilities and diverse learning needs. KTIV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Local leaders are lobbying for federal funds this week to overhaul and expand Sioux Gateway Airport's main runway so that the Iowa National Guard's 185th Air Refueling Wing — which employs nearly 1,000 people — stays in the area. Sioux City Journal
- ➤ Repairs on Sergeant Floyd Monument will begin this week and the department advises visitors to use caution (check posted guidelines at the site) when visiting. Sioux City Journal
