- ➤ Almost a year after the 2024 flood, students from Sioux City Career Academy helped repair the home that had nearly four feet of water damage for the Loof family. They worked on drywall and other repairs for weeks and will continue for about another week to restore the house. SiouxlandProud
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Two fatal crashes on Transit Avenue in less than three months have led Sioux City officials to search for ways to slow traffic—on Feb 7 a speeding car hit a pole causing a fatal fire and on April 19 a speeding vehicle killed two people as police increase patrols and the city reviews options like more reflective signs and a traffic study. - ➤ Officials in Cherokee County said at about 12:30 a.m. on Monday a 47-year-old man lost his life when a speeding Chevrolet driven by 66-year-old Richard Hammond ran him over on a farm + Hammond has been booked on a first-degree murder charge + he remains in jail on no bond. Sioux Country Radio
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Two finalists were named on Monday for the chief administrator role at Northwest AEA — Shari Blake, a director in the agency’s west region, and Seth Piro, a Regional Special Education Director for the Iowa Department of Education from Harlan. Final interviews will be held on April 29 at the Northwest AEA Discovery Center on Discovery Blvd — officials will announce the new chief administrator on May 2. SiouxlandProud

- ➤ Sioux City has maintained its Bird Friendly City Designation earned last year and supports bird conservation this spring. Loess Hills Audubon Society, a key contributor, will meet on May 1 at Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center and host a Birdathon on May 10 at Prairie Park—providing field guides and binoculars for local bird watchers.
