- ➤ Pressman-Kosters American Legion Post #329 donated $2,000 to Midwest Honor Flight, which will fly 85 veterans from Sioux Gateway Airport to Washington, D.C. on June 3 — the organization still needs to raise a total of $200,000 and the flight payment is due May 1. SiouxlandProud
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Alan Weets, a Cedar County farmer from Mechanicsville, is suing Chicago-based Acciona—he alleges that turbine fires in March 2023, May 2024 and August 2024 scattered debris over 230 acres and forced him to limit crop production. The lawsuit seeks damages for alleged negligence, breach of contract and consumer fraud after a $230,000 check failed to resolve the losses. KTIV
- ➤ Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig awarded 33 Choose Iowa value-added grants to farms and small businesses in 28 counties—four were given to Siouxland businesses. Country Pines Tree Farm in Marcus got $20,064.86 for expanding its store, Lone Oak Honey Company in Sioux City received $1,164.54 for new equipment, Mockingbird Hill Kettle Co. in Archer got $2,800 for popcorn production tools, and Nieland Custom Meats in Newell got $25,000 for facility renovations. - ➤ WinnaVegas Casino Resort warns Iowa residents that fraudulent online ads falsely claim the casino offers real-money gaming and urges guests to use only its official website and social media channels. General Manager Tom Teesdale said the resort is working to remove the ads and noted that other tribally owned casinos have also been targeted in similar scams. KTIV

- ➤ The Mid America Museum of Aviation and Transportation will launch new summer programs to boost attendance. The museum will begin its offerings in May with aviation-themed movie nights with free popcorn and story time sessions that let participants write their own books while a car show and pancake breakfast fundraiser is scheduled on May 3 from 8 a.m. to noon and day camps will start in June for hands-on aviation experiences. - ➤ A local historical account detailed how Iowa families served in WWII—one family, the Sullivans, enlisted to serve together and lost their lives when their ship sank, while another from Odebolt had eight brothers and a father who served with notable humor and courage.
