  • Coney Island, a staple of the local food scene, reopens Tuesday, April 28 at 10:30 a.m. at (2519 Hamilton Blvd) and features a 50-foot mural of local history along with a 1950s jukebox as part of its extended hours until the last customer leaves.  KTIV

  • The Sioux City Public Museum is unveiling a new exhibit, Call to Arms: Sioux City in US Military History, today at 607 4th Street. The exhibit honors local veterans with displays of weaponry + uniforms and runs until Sunday, Aug. 23.  KTIV
  • Sioux City's Marto Brewing Co. won two medals at the Best in Craft Beer Awards in Oregon — a gold for its American Girl ale and a silver for its Fear of the Dark brew that highlight local craftsmanship.  KTIV

  • Morningside University is partnering with a local (career academy) to expand access for high school students pursuing careers in health care and education. The new initiative will offer applied training programs to improve pathways to higher education.  Sioux City Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Sioux City Parks and Recreation planted a red maple at the Chris Larsen Park boat ramp yesterday for Arbor Day. Parks superintendent Kelly Bach said the tree was added to diversify maples and boost lasting environmental benefits.  KTIV
  • Sioux City readers should know Iowa’s 60 water quality sensors that track nitrates and toxins risk losing funding after June 30 if the proposed budget bill falls short—rural water treatment plants rely on these sensors to make timely adjustments.  KTIV

  • Friday night, the Alzheimer’s Association Iowa Chapter hosted its 32nd annual Wine & Roses Festival at South Sioux City Riverfront Marriott to raise money for Alzheimer’s research, with guests enjoying a multi-course meal, wine & live and silent auctions.  KTIV
