- ➤ CAASA held a free lunch and learn in Le Mars on Friday to teach attendees about sexual assault support, human trafficking, and healthy relationships as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month — they will continue these sessions across 19 counties with the next planned for June. KTIV
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Cotton drove an Oldsmobile Alero on southbound I-29 near mile marker 132 in Salix on February 21st, 2023 — he was found guilty of vehicular homicide after the car rolled over and came to rest on its top. Sioux City Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Sioux City Community School District received all its anticipated federal funds for a fleet of new electric buses—while many districts nationwide have struggled to secure similar support. Sioux City Journal
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Iowa State University Extension agronomists finished a spring survey on April 14 that measured subsoil moisture across Northwest Iowa with readings from 6.98 inches in Akron to 10.25 inches in Doon. They said the moisture levels are average overall and planting is on schedule (24% corn and 13% soybeans planted) as additional rainfall boosts the soil profile. Sioux Country Radio
- ➤ Sioux City planted three Autumn Brilliance Serviceberries in honor of Arbor Day west of the Seaboard Triumph Foods Expo Center — the trees are expected to reach between 20 and 25 feet high and take about 20 years to fully mature. SiouxlandProud

- ➤ A section of South Saint Marys Street at 5th Avenue in Sioux City will close for repairs starting Monday, April 28—weather permitting, the closure will last three days as a contractor works on the repairs; drivers are urged to slow down and obey traffic signals. SiouxlandProud
- ➤ Sioux City Police Department has added Remi+ a five-year-old Labrador retriever as its first therapy dog to help ease officer stress and support victims and children during interactions. Captain Groves trained Remi in a year-long pilot program and she was certified on Friday, with plans to expand the program in the future. KTIV

- ➤ A Siouxland family affected by Huntington’s disease is raising awareness about the rare genetic disorder that damages movement and speech, with several family members already affected. The Conleys will join a walk for hope on May 3 at Cleveland Park in Le Mars—an event organized by the Huntington’s Disease Society of America to fund research. SiouxlandProud
