- ➤ Sioux City hosted its Spring Electronics Re-Event at the Citizen’s Convenience Center on April 26 — the semi-annual event allowed residents to drop off electronics, appliances, batteries, tires and mattresses to conserve resources and reduce landfill waste. The city and Environmental Advisory Board ran the event with specified fees for some items and accepted cash or checks only. SiouxlandProud
- ➤ The Greek Orthodox Church in Sioux City hosted the Gyro Fest drive-up event on April 26 and is holding it again today — serving gyros, salads, meatballs, rice, loukoumades and baklava as a sneak peek for Summer’s Greek Fest with full menu and pricing details coming soon. SiouxlandProud
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Local leaders from Sioux City are traveling to Washington this week—requesting federal funding to upgrade Sioux Gateway Airport’s 9,000-foot runway and to help finance a $470 million overhaul of the city's wastewater treatment plant. Officials warn that without this funding the 185th Air Refueling Wing and accompanying local services could face serious cuts. Sioux City Journal
