- ➤ Dordt University coaching staff with Sioux Center Recreation was honored by the Sioux Center Chamber of Commerce with the Community Service Award this spring at the 2025 Spirit of Community event — recognizing their work with local youth and community projects. Their efforts support the development of servant leaders and build strong ties with neighbors — a model of community service in action. Sioux Country Radio
- ➤ Tuesday morning, the Sunnybrook Hope Center held its first annual ‘Gathering’ event where community members learned about local services — including housing, healthcare and childcare — while the food pantry paused its usual food assistance. The center will host its next gathering on Thursday, May 1 from 5 to 8 p.m. with prior registration. KTIV
- ➤ Goodwill is hosting its free GoodShred event on May 6 at 3100 W. 4th Street in Sioux City as part of Goodwill Week—May 4—10. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a local food truck will serve burgers at 11 a.m. SiouxlandProud

- ➤ A Sioux City man named Ron hit the largest jackpot in Hard Rock Hotel & Casino history on Sunday when he won $466,857 on the Cash Wheel Slot Machine, with most of his win going into his retirement fund. The casino also paid out a $393,084 jackpot at its Ultimate Texas Hold’em table and a third jackpot in early March—bringing total payouts since then to over $825,000. SiouxlandProud

- ➤ The 11th annual Pete Goede ALS Benefit Concert will take place Sunday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Sioux City's Anthem where bands including Steven Bankey and the Flatland Band, Missouri Blend, Rock Bottlem and The Establishment will perform—proceeds from the event will benefit families battling ALS and all attendees must be 21 or older. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Sioux City City Council approved work at Sioux Gateway Airport on Monday to replace the Gate 2 Passenger Boarding Bridge with new electrical and HVAC upgrades and to rebuild part of the South Apron with new pavement work. The projects cost about $1.4 million and $555,509 and bidding will start on May 8 + officials said the work is funded by an FAA grant with a 95% to 5% cost split. SiouxlandProud
- ➤ The Woodbury County Board of Supervisors approved a 2% raise for elected officials for the next fiscal year— the measure passed with a 3—2 vote. Sioux City Journal
- ➤ An engineering study found that the three-story Wetmore Building at 615 Douglas St. is structurally sound for renovation and reuse, with no major issues to prevent its redevelopment - Mayor Pro Tem Dan Moore said this finding is good news for updating the property that once shared a wall with the demolished old Sioux City Auditorium.
