- ➤ Today, many Siouxlanders gathered at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino for the 11th annual Pete Goede ALS Benefit Concert — four bands performed in the afternoon while a silent auction was scheduled later to help raise $40,000 to $50,000 for free support services for those battling ALS. SiouxlandProud

- ➤ A Sioux City tattoo shop marked its seven-year anniversary by inviting artists from Kansas City and Chicago to paint an ocean-themed mural in front of its downtown building. Owner Jeremy Boddy said he might call the artists back when the shop reaches 10 years — planning a larger project. SiouxlandProud

- ➤ Sioux City North junior Emma Oleson will compete in the Poetry Out Loud Nationals in Washington D.C.—she will recite three poems Tuesday and Wednesday as she follows local talent like Dakota Valley grad Grace Powell. Oleson practices to keep her delivery natural and plans to compete again next year as a senior. Sioux City Journal
- ➤ In 1950, Sioux City Catholics dedicated a high school worth a million dollars and renamed it Heelan High School to honor Bishop Edmond Heelan—who led the diocese until his death in 1948—and the school stands as a lasting tribute to his legacy. Sioux City Journal
