Sioux City Animal Adoption and Rescue will host the Luke Day Barbecue on June 5 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 2400 Hawkeye Drive to honor NextHome TriState Realty’s dog mascot and support rescued animals — the event offers barbecue sandwiches, chips, drinks, donation opportunities, and a raffle with a chance to cover an adoption fee.

On May 6, the Sioux County Community Foundation awarded over $137,000 in grants at the Parkview Event Center in Rock Valley to support local projects and programs - adding to more than $1.9 million awarded since 2006.

The grant funds will help improve services and quality of life for residents.

A Le Mars man (Reese Harms, 25) was sentenced on May 2 to 50 years in prison and ordered to pay $150,000 in restitution after a Plymouth County jury found him guilty on March 7 of second-degree murder for choking Michael Roy Gomez to death earlier this year.
