COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Sioux City Animal Adoption and Rescue will host the Luke Day Barbecue on June 5 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 2400 Hawkeye Drive to honor NextHome TriState Realty’s dog mascot and support rescued animals — the event offers barbecue sandwiches, chips, drinks, donation opportunities, and a raffle with a chance to cover an adoption fee. - ➤ On May 6, the Sioux County Community Foundation awarded over $137,000 in grants at the Parkview Event Center in Rock Valley to support local projects and programs - adding to more than $1.9 million awarded since 2006. The grant funds will help improve services and quality of life for residents. Sioux Country Radio
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Le Mars man (Reese Harms, 25) was sentenced on May 2 to 50 years in prison and ordered to pay $150,000 in restitution after a Plymouth County jury found him guilty on March 7 of second-degree murder for choking Michael Roy Gomez to death earlier this year. SiouxlandProud
- ➤ On May 6, the court ruled that Raymond Rogers—charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder and breaking a no contact order—is not able to stand trial because his self-inflicted gunshot wound to the face caused a memory disorder, and his trial is now on hold indefinitely. SiouxlandProud
- ➤ Two individuals were sentenced to prison for selling meth in Sioux County after a search warrant at Marquez Ramirez's home uncovered meth, a scale, packaging materials—drug paraphernalia, and Ramirez later admitted to selling meth from August. Sioux City Journal

- ➤ Fifty-six Siouxland students were recognized for academic achievement by Gov. Kim Reynolds — Lt. Governor Chris Cournoyer presented the awards. Sioux City Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Sioux City will close the Floyd Boulevard Bridge and 4th Street Bridge for 100 days beginning May 19 for deck overlays and substructure repairs—detour routes will run along Dace Avenue, S. Lewis Boulevard/Business 75, and 6th Street. The contractor, Cramer & Associates, Inc., was awarded the $2.27 million project in April and will finish repairs by mid-September. KTIV
- ➤ A section of Jennings Street in Downtown Sioux City is closed between 5th and 6th Streets for utility repairs and will remain closed until Friday, May 9 as a private contractor works on the job—drivers are urged to slow down and obey all traffic signs. SiouxlandProud
