- ➤ The South Sioux City Public Library hosted a Lunch and Learn event on stress management on May 8 where Kate Limpke from Heartland Counseling explained grounding techniques to help calm anxiety. The free event—open to everyone—allowed attendees to bring their lunch as they learned simple ways to manage stress. SiouxlandProud
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Two Sioux County men, one from Sioux Center and one from Orange City, were sentenced to 10-year indeterminate prison terms for meth distribution after an investigation from August to December uncovered over 5 grams of meth, a scale and packaging, with the Orange City man sentenced on April 30 for intent to deliver meth. - ➤ On April 22, Sergeant Bluff police rescued Oliver the dog from an Interstate 29 culvert after reports of his illness from eating road debris—animal experts treated him and warned that dumping an animal may lead to aggravated misdemeanor charges, and he is now recovering while awaiting adoption. - ➤ A man in a stolen pickup drove to a dead end, jumped out and fled on foot but was caught by police—he then punched a Sioux City officer during his arrest. Sioux City Journal

- ➤ Bishop John E. Keehner of the Catholic Diocese of Sioux City said on May 8 he was pleased with Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost’s selection as Pope Leo XIV—history’s first American Pope—and he urged the faithful to pray for his guidance. He added that the cardinals made their decision prayerfully with the help of the Holy Spirit. SiouxlandProud
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Sioux City officials held a prescribed burn at Prairie Park on Thursday to remove dead vegetation and limit invasive plants. Emergency responders set a control line—public access was restricted overnight until safety was confirmed. SiouxlandProud

- ➤ Chief Master Sgt. Valerie Rose and Senior Master Sgt. Bradley Rose of the 185th Air Refueling Wing in Sioux City marked major career milestones on May 3 when Valerie retired after 30 years and Bradley was promoted to mission support group chief—both received service medals and thanked family and friends for their support. - ➤ The West Street Bridge will close to traffic for roughly five months later this month so that it can be replaced — city officials plan the work to update and maintain local infrastructure. Sioux City Journal

- ➤ KTIV reported that $135,452 was raised during the Children’s Miracle Network Mediathon—$20,000 above the $115,000 goal—to support better health care for Siouxland children, with funds helping 42,000 pediatric patients at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's after several days of donations. KTIV
