EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Sioux City Community School District celebrated 40 retiring staff members on Wednesday, May 14 at the Education Service Center in downtown Sioux City. The event honored teachers and food service workers, and culinary students prepared the food + one retiring educator remarked that some people simply know when it is time to retire. SiouxlandProud
- ➤ Bishop Heelan senior Ronnie Vedin lost his mother on Feb. 11 after already losing his father and grandfather, and he felt his world change. Principal Chris Bork and his wife invited him to live with them until school ends plus the community has rallied around him as he prepares for graduation. Sioux City Journal

- ➤ A Sioux City homeowner said drainage from Woodbury Heights Apartments has sent stormwater into his yard for three years, flooding his property and causing damage to his home. Mayor Bob Scott said his case will be added to the city engineering committee’s agenda as officials look for a lasting solution. KTIV

- ➤ LifeServe Blood Center will hold four blood drives in Woodbury County for Cancer Survivor Month to help increase supply of O- blood—drives are set for June 5, 11, 19, and 24 at local locations. SiouxlandProud

- ➤ The Sioux City Explorers did not score until the seventh inning but then got three runs to beat the Chicago Dogs 3-1 at Impact Field—Zac Vooletich hit a two-run home run, Austin Davis stole home, and starter Kyle Marman struck out nine batters in six innings.
