- ➤ Siouxland GO held its 15th annual Innovation Market event Thursday evening at the Sioux City Art Center—17 business ideas competed for five finalist spots and a chance to win $5,500. The five finalists will pitch their ideas to event sponsors on June 12th. KTIV
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Sioux City man Rhoden was sentenced to 31 years in federal prison after trial evidence showed he tricked a woman from a domestic abuse shelter into his car on July 28th, 2022 — his actions spanned the next 36 hours. Sioux City Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Bishop Heelan High School will hold its 2025 graduation on Sunday at 2 p.m.—a ceremony set to honor many seniors including Ronnie Verdin. Principal Chris Bork said Verdin will live at his home to finish his final months at school before the event. Sioux City Journal
- ➤ Second graders at Loess Hill Elementary dined on cheese and pepperoni pizza, fries and wings to honor Vincent Gomez after he earned an honorable mention at the ArtWorks Show for his papier-mâché sculpture of Bob Roe’s chicken and fries — his family’s connection to Bob Roe’s inspired his work, and his art teacher said the class was thrilled with the treat. - ➤ Siouxland Christian High School (SCHS) released its list of graduates (Class of 2025), confirming that students have completed their studies. The announcement provides the official record of those who earned their diplomas this year. Sioux City Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Iowa 911 professionals from APCO and NENA warned that a bill passed overnight may force local emergency services to pay new fees—risking staffing cuts, delayed equipment upgrades and slower responses, especially in rural areas. They urged Governor Kim Reynolds to veto the bill to protect emergency service programs across the state. KTIV
