  • Siouxlanders celebrated National Bike to Work Day by cycling to work as local eateries and health vendors provided breakfast at a Chamber of Commerce parking lot (offering fitness tips and safety advice). The event promoted a sustainable and healthy commuting alternative.  KTIV
  • Sergeant Brandon Chapple returned from deployment on Saturday and surprised his children at a dance class in Sioux City — turning an ordinary morning into a special homecoming. His family shared joy as they planned a day of golfing and enjoying peach fluff.  KTIV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Planning and Zoning Commission is set to review a plan on Tuesday, May 26 at 4:00 p.m. to site a 7 Brew drive-thru coffee shop at 5758 Sunnybrook Drive (Lowe's parking lot) and the plan will need further approval from City Council.  KTIV

CULTURE NEWS

  • On May 16, volunteers at the Sioux City Railroad Museum roundhouse began restoring the historic Great Northern 1355 steam engine with the help of professional contractors and a $1.1M grant, an effort that could boost local tourism.  KTIV
  • Sergeant Charles Floyd’s death helped cement the area as a key Lewis & Clark landmark — a guide for early explorers, noted by the Sioux City Public Museum. Archival records show the site served as a vital wayfinding point through the wilderness.  Sioux City Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sioux City Schools will discontinue specialty programs in arts + computer programming + STEM + International Baccalaureate + environmental sciences at Hunt, Loess Hills, Morningside, Perry Creek, and Spalding Park Elementary. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • South Dakota Highway Patrol warns drivers to slow down as summer travel and construction delays increase traffic on the roads. Motorists, motorcyclists and passengers are advised to use seatbelts (and helmets) to keep safe.  KTIV
  • Lake Park's outdoor pool (a 53-year-old facility) will not open this summer after city crews found severe damage in its structure. Mayor Carstensen said a consultant will survey the repairs before the city council makes further decisions.  KTIV

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Mighty Mo Run now spans three states with a new pedestrian bridge linking Iowa and South Dakota, adding a full marathon for the first time. Race director Jim Ewoldt said the expanded route fulfills the event’s vision — boosting regional participation.  KTIV
