COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ More than 2,000 Siouxland residents lost power Monday morning in areas such as Sioux City and Storm Lake — outages also occurred in Schaller, Odebolt, and Alcester. Some locations had power restored by 10 a.m. while others remained without a set restoration time. KTIV
- ➤ Sioux City Marina will re-open Memorial Day weekend as the new operator gets the facility ready after it closed at the end of the summer boating season in 2023 — boaters can look forward to renewed access to the marina — the operator said. Sioux City Journal
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The family of James Foster Jr. filed a federal lawsuit in Sioux City against city officials, police, fire rescue and EMS after paramedic Deanna LaMere mistakenly injected him with a paralytic instead of a sedative during a medical call on Aug. 20—a mistake they say led to his death and caused significant losses and suffering. - ➤ Katrina Barnes reached a plea deal in a Sioux City murder case—she will plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. Sioux City Journal

- ➤ Grammy-nominated Teddy Swims will headline the 35th anniversary Saturday in the Park festival on July 5 in Sioux City. Sioux City Journal
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Farmers in Northwest Iowa nearly finished planting corn and soybeans and reached higher crop emergence rates than the state average despite dry topsoil — the USDA report shows 96% corn planted with 65% emerged and 88% soybeans planted with 49% emerged. Over half an inch of rain fell Monday and more rain is forecast today and possibly Wednesday — these conditions may help ease the dry soil. Sioux Country Radio

- ➤ Three Siouxland tribes received affordable housing grants from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development — the Ponca Tribe obtained over $5.2 million, the Winnebago Tribe received just over $2 million, and the Santee Sioux Nation was awarded more than $1 million from a $1.1 billion block grant. - ➤ Siouxland District Health is offering free measles vaccinations to protect the community amid an outbreak affecting 31 states, with clinics running today from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Officials advise anyone who has not received a full MMR series to get vaccinated and say those needing a different appointment should call (712) 279-6119.
