- ➤ Equipping the Persecuted, a Sioux City charity, has helped more than 400,000 Christians in Nigeria—where 17 are killed each day—since its founding in 2011. Its Truth Nigeria project sent out alert warnings and faced setbacks when three journalists were detained during a press conference commemorating a 22-year-old student’s murder, calling on local supporters to help its mission. - ➤ Goodwill of the Great Plains opened its new 2,500 square foot Mission Service Center in Sioux City on May 20th—nearly two years in the making, the facility houses a job center along with a gym, game room, and art and music room for community use. - ➤ A South Sioux City man was sentenced to jail for allegedly throwing a cat against a wall—resulting in the animal suffering a scratched eye and a loud pop that alarmed witnesses. Sioux City Journal

- ➤ Saturday in the Park is set to celebrate its 35th anniversary by returning to its bluesy roots — organizers plan to feature live blues performances that highlight a long tradition of local music festivals. Sioux City Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Sioux City Mayor’s Youth Commission is accepting nominations for the Young Ambassadors program until June 20 for students in grades 4–7 who study in Sioux City schools, reside in town, or are home-schooled locally. Selected students will be mentored by the Youth Commission and recognized on September 8 at 7 p.m. at City Hall — the 5th floor Council Chambers — where they will receive a free program t-shirt. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The family of James Joseph Foster Jr. sued Sioux City, its Fire and Rescue, and Police after an EMT allegedly injected him with rocuronium instead of ketamine on August 18th, 2023, which left him unable to breathe and caused his death two days later—paramedic Deanna LaMere now faces an involuntary manslaughter charge.
