EDUCATION NEWS

  • Girls Inc. in Sioux City teaches young girls mental health skills with journaling and group discussions; its 9-week summer program starts Monday, June 1 to help participants learn that asking for help is a sign of strength.  KTIV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • University of Iowa students must complete six credits at the Center for Intellectual Freedom to graduate, while Iowa State and UNI students will be required to take six credits in American History & American Government when the law takes effect in July 2028 pending Gov. Reynolds' signature.  KTIV

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Department of Health and Human Services advisory warns Iowa parents of cellphone risks for young children & advises limiting screen time to 2 hours daily. Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Gov. Kim Reynolds said the guidelines build on last year’s classroom cellphone ban.  KTIV
  • Agape Community Services held a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday for its new long-term treatment facility and plans to build it to serve local residents. Construction is set to begin soon to meet growing community needs.  Sioux City Journal
