  • Gordon Klatt + Martha visited on Friday morning to give retired Sioux City firefighter and Navy veteran Dennis Hageman a Quilt of Valor made in Adel, Iowa. Martha said the quilt will bring him warmth + comfort and healing while honoring his decades of service in the military and community.  KTIV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Shelly Smith, 61, died in a house fire that broke out Monday just after 6 a.m.—the home, located seven miles southwest of Rock Valley, was fully engulfed as multiple fire departments responded while owner Mike Smith, 67, was hospitalized with injuries and officials continue investigating the cause.  SiouxlandProud

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sioux City Transit System is proposing to raise the Adult Monthly Pass fare from $48 to $50, a rate that has been unchanged since July 1, 2010. A public hearing is scheduled for June 4 at noon in the Transit Conference Room at 509 Nebraska Street for community feedback with written comments accepted until June 11.  SiouxlandProud
  • Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds is reviewing a new Eminent Domain Bill that would require CO2 pipeline companies to hold meetings 30 days before filing for property rights—she began meeting with stakeholders this week. She must sign or veto the bill by June 14.  SiouxlandProud
  • A Presidential Disaster Declaration has been granted for western Iowa—severe weather caused over $8 million in damage, according to a joint federal, state and local assessment from the governor's office.  Sioux City Journal

  • Sioux City mixologist Jzar Templin at the Country Club is crafting unique summer cocktails and mocktails with recipes like Apricot Zombie, Lavender Lemonade and Watermelon Gin & Juice—using fresh ingredients to offer local residents new refreshing drink options.
