  • Motorcyclists rode from Sergeant Bluff to Siouxland Freedom Park in the 11th annual Thunder on the Missouri to honor veterans—organizers noted the event helps educate younger riders and welcomes those without motorcycles for future rides.  SiouxlandProud

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Sioux City Municipal Band will begin their weekly summer concerts at Grand View Park on June 1st at 7:30 p.m.—led by conductor Michael Prichard with performances including Looney Tunes Overture—and continue through July 20th with an audience sing-along hosted by Dave Madsen, presented by the Parks and Recreation Department.  SiouxlandProud

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Reynolds said she will focus on property taxes during next year's legislative session and will spend the summer traveling across Iowa to discuss her plan with local stakeholders—this follows a session that ended without a property tax bill. She explained that the review will cover all parts of the tax system—including government services and rising evaluations—to set a new foundation for future reform.  Sioux City Journal

  • Gary Lipshutz, the founder of the Sioux City Musketeers and a leader in both local sports and the arts, died Saturday at age 82 after battling heart issues—his work shaped hockey and cultural events in the community for over five decades.  Sioux City Journal
