- ➤ A new veterans memorial was unveiled at the Historic Woodbury Township Cemetery in Sergeant Bluff on Memorial Day to honor soldiers who served the nation—dozens of families attended the ceremony that ended with a firing squad salute, Taps and 30 seconds of silence. - ➤ The Sioux City Municipal Band will begin their summer concert season at Grand View Park next Sunday night, June 1 at 7:30 p.m.—the event led by conductor Michael Prichard will feature works such as 'Looney Tunes Overture', 'Peer Gynt Suite', 'Music of Disneyland', and John Phillip Sousa’s 'Guide Right' with a traditional audience sing-along hosted by Dave Madsen; the series will continue through July 20. - ➤ Sioux City Community School District will hold graduation ceremonies at Tyson Events Center, with North High School graduating seniors today at 7 p.m., West High School on Wednesday at 7 p.m., and East High School on Thursday at 7 p.m. Strict security measures—allowing only one clear bag per person and banning alcohol, illegal drugs, and weapons—will be enforced at each event. - ➤ Sioux City’s Planned Parenthood will close before July 1st — its parent organization said Friday that frozen Minnesota Title X funds forced a consolidation of eight health centers.
