- ➤ Midwest Honor Flight is raising money for Mission 26, which will fly from Sioux Gateway Airport on June 3, as a recent event raised nearly $11,000 plus officials expect two more sponsors to boost funds above $12,000. More than 100 vehicles and 300 people attended Sunday’s event plus the public can welcome returning veterans at Hawthorne Aviation Hangar when they get back around 9 p.m. with doors opening at 7:30 p.m. SiouxlandProud
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Officials in Monona County have been searching for a resident who went missing over the weekend after their boat hit a barge near Huff Warner access on the Missouri River—multiple teams from local and state agencies are involved in the search. SiouxlandProud
- ➤ A crash on Highway 77 about 4 miles south of Dakota City killed Timothy French, 63, who was injured when his semi-truck and trailer rolled off the roadway around 11:09 a.m. Tuesday—authorities are investigating the incident. SiouxlandProud
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ A local nonprofit, Missouri River Historical Development, will open its 2025 economic development match grant in a few days to support projects in Woodbury County with awards ranging from $250,000 to $1,000,000. Applications will be accepted until June 30 and funding decisions will be announced during an awards ceremony on August 21 at Anthem at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sioux City — projects must start within two years of receiving the grant. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Morningside University in Sioux City earned full FAA Part 141 certification on May 27—meeting FAA standards for safety, curriculum, and flight training. The school will soon apply for the Restricted Airline Transport Pilot Program so graduates can enter the aviation industry with a strong credential. SiouxlandProud

- ➤ On July 1, law enforcement will begin giving warnings to drivers using handheld devices after Senate File 22 banned such use, with penalties coming next January. - ➤ Heartland Counseling Services in South Sioux City got a nearly $500,000 grant from the Clarkson Institute on Monday.
