- ➤ Family and friends gathered at Memorial Park Cemetery this past weekend to mark the 10-year anniversary of Alicia Hummel's death by placing flowers and handing out kindness cards that call for 10 acts of kindness—an effort organizers say may result in at least 40 acts in June in honor of her 40th birthday on June 27—while her murder case remains unsolved. - ➤ Sioux City hosted the second annual Cone Park Trail Festival this weekend at Cone Park’s mountain bike park—offering 10 miles of natural trail, bike vendors, live music, food trucks and a new bike pump race. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ OSHA fined Tyson Fresh Meats nearly $28,000 for two serious citations at its Dakota City plant after a maintenance worker was fatally injured in January—a third citation was dropped. SiouxlandProud
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Several high school students visited Irving Dual Language Elementary School today to mentor students and share tips on learning Spanish and English. Professor Todd Siefker said the visit builds hope — with mentors showing real bilingual success — and gives practical advice for future language learning. KTIV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Heartland Counseling received a $500,000 grant from the Clarkson Institute in Omaha and will use it to expand into four new school districts by hiring four licensed therapists and three certified peer support specialists—services that will be ready for the 2025-26 school year to help reduce long travel times for rural students. REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ The Sioux City City Council announced it will accept a Tri-State Real Estate Development proposal to restore 615 Douglas Street and turn the adjacent vacant lot into green space; the $5 million plan will add 18 apartments + retail on the first floor and include community parking and park-like improvements, with work expected to finish by the end of 2027. - ➤ RAGBRAI officials began inspecting this year’s route with the first leg from Orange City to Milford on Sunday and inspected the second leg from Milford to Estherville on Monday — marking the first time the route crossed into Minnesota — while local committees met in Milford to answer public questions.
