  • Mardi Gras returns to downtown Sioux City for its 31st celebration later this summer with a parade scheduled for July 3 at 6 p.m. The updated route starts at the Wesley Parkway bridge, continues east on Larson Park Road past the Anderson Dance Pavilion, and ends at the Chris Larsen Yoga Lawn—registration remains open at the Tyson Event Center website, at the Primebank Box Office, or by calling 712-279-4850.  SiouxlandProud

CRIME NEWS

  • Sioux City Police warned residents about a scam text message that falsely claims an unpaid traffic ticket will suspend vehicle registration + the message is sent from a +63 number from the Philippines and Woodbury County Treasurer recorded more than 40 calls from concerned locals.  SiouxlandProud
  • Woodbury County Treasurer Tina Bertand has warned Siouxland residents about scam texts that claim a traffic violation must be resolved by June 6 or their vehicle registration will be canceled — officials advise consumers to ignore these messages and protect their personal information.  KTIV

  • Downtown Sioux City will host First Fridays starting Friday — a new event series featuring live music, food options, pop-up shops and family-friendly activities — as Downtown Partners launches the summer series.  Sioux City Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Tuesday, three fifth-grade students at Unity Elementary were bestowed knighthood by Sir Robert (First Knight and sworn protector of the Kingdom of Riverssance) for their outstanding behavior during the End of the Year Awards Ceremony. Sir Knight Liam Sturges said that good behavior and active listening in class are the keys to earning the honor (a message for students looking to be recognized in the future).  KTIV
  • Governor Kim Reynolds signed the Math Counts Act on Monday—House File 784—which requires schools to screen students and create personalized support plans while offering teacher training, and the law will take effect on July 1 to boost math skills before fall classes begin.  SiouxlandProud

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Sergeant Bluff has hired its first full-time fire chief—Anthony Gaul, who will start on July 1 to manage the growing volunteer fire rescue department and improve training, equipment, and call responses.  SiouxlandProud
  • The Woodbury County Board of Supervisors reviewed multiple capital improvement projects for fiscal year 2026 and finance director Ryan Ericson noted that unspent funds may help approve more projects — a change that could open more margin for future requests. The board tabled the agenda item to gather precise details on project costs.  SiouxlandProud
