COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Sioux City Animal Rescue featured Farley— a 2 to 3-year-old male cream Tabby cat who was returned to the shelter after his owners moved. The rescue also has other cats and dogs ready for adoption.  SiouxlandProud
  • On June 3, 85 veterans from Iowa, South Dakota and Nebraska took the Midwest Honor Flight from Sioux Gateway Airport to Washington, D.C.—visiting national memorials like the Air Force and Iwo Jima Memorials before seeing the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Veterans paired with guardians received a warm welcome upon their return, with emotional homecomings and heartfelt exchange of tokens.  KTIV

CRIME NEWS

  • A Sioux City man was sentenced to federal prison after car chases led police to find guns and ammunition in two stops and 2 ounces of meth in another stop — one of the guns was stolen.  Sioux City Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Sioux City Public Museum will soon display Uncle John’s Ceiling Mural by Paul Chelstad, a historic artwork painted in 1978 for Uncle John Records and Tapes (a local record store). The exhibit will begin tomorrow and run until October 5 (museum director Steve Hansen said it celebrates the city’s cultural past).  SiouxlandProud

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sioux City officials announced that South Rustin Street will close between Leech and Washington Avenues—one of two planned road closures—and another street will close soon. Residents should check for updated travel information as the work begins.  SiouxlandProud
  • Singing Hills Boulevard will close at the railroad crossing on June 10 so drivers must follow a detour via South Lewis Boulevard—Donner Avenue—South York Street.  Sioux City Journal
