COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bike SUX, a charity ride to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Siouxland, will start at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday at Caribou Coffee on Hamilton Blvd in the Marketplace Shopping Center, with registration beginning at 8:00 a.m.  Sioux City Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Sioux City police are searching for Lyndrick Griffin, a 10-year-old boy reportedly missing after he was last seen leaving his home at the 2800 block of West Fourth St. at 7 p.m. Tuesday.  Sioux City Journal
  • Officers reached 836 18th St at 3:03 a.m. after reports of a stabbing—finding a man with upper-body stab wounds who was taken to a hospital.  Sioux City Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Sioux City Public Museum is now displaying historic Uncle John's ceiling mural that shows the city’s artistic heritage & attracts local visitors.  Sioux City Journal
  • GhostCat—a well-known Sioux City band formed in 2014—will perform on the Main Stage at Saturday in the Park on July 5. They recently rocked the Abe Stage in 2023 and are known for their indie alternative rock style.  SiouxlandProud

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Bryant Elementary School in Sioux City, hundreds of kindergarten students walked the red carpet Thursday morning to show off their colorful alphabet-themed outfits — a debut event where art teacher Jeremy Dumkrieger said the kids made their own vests and headbands — sparking creative fun for everyone involved.  SiouxlandProud

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sioux Center City Council approved plans for four outdoor pickleball courts this summer—two in Children’s Park and two in Open Space Park, to be paid for by the city and partner groups. Work will begin in late June or July as officials respond to community interest in more active park amenities.  Sioux Country Radio
  • Sioux Center will partner with the DOT to rebuild Highway 75 from 12th St. North to 20th St. North, adding safety features like new lanes, a stoplight, landscaped medians and a paved pedestrian trail. The DOT leads the pavement removal and concrete replacement while the City pays for utilities and streetscape improvements—completion is expected during the 2028 and 2029 construction seasons.  Sioux Country Radio
