- ➤ The 3rd annual Siouxland Food Festival brought the community together on Jun7 as 11 local vendors served food and raised funds for the Food Bank of Siouxland—sponsored by Seaboard Triumph Foods. Families enjoyed live music and a bouncy house for kids, and the festival aimed to raise $40,000 to help feed those in need. SiouxlandProud
- ➤ Families attended the 29th River-cade Youth Fishing Derby at Bacon Creek Park on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon, where children ages 4 to 12 paid $5 for a kit that included a rod, reel, tackle box, and lunch and a chance to win a bike in a casting contest — organizers said the event focused on giving kids a fun way to fish with family rather than competing for the biggest catch. - ➤ 96-year-old WWII veteran Leo Thornton of North Sioux City served in the Navy starting in 1943 and toured Washington, D.C. memorials on Tuesday as part of Mission 26 of Midwest Honor Flight. He shared his stories with a school group at the Iwo Jima Memorial — he also earned the nickname Tiger when he lied about his age to join the fight. KTIV
- ➤ Yesterday at Siouxland Freedom Park, the Martha Washington Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution dedicated 'The Patriot’s Bench' in the Never Forget Garden to honor Revolutionary War patriots on the 250th anniversary of independence—its design shows a silhouette of a soldier and civilians who helped secure victory.
