  • Two local softball teams held a strikeout cancer event at East High School on Tuesday night to raise funds for Zachary Malenosky, the KCAU 9 director (recovering after a brain tumor removal); proceeds from sold t-shirts, stickers and ice cream floats went toward his medical bills.  SiouxlandProud
  • Fuzzy was a 10 to 12 week old male silver tabby kitten found abandoned with three siblings at a local rescue's front door. The rescue said the kittens (two boys and two girls) are sweet and ready for adoption.  SiouxlandProud

CRIME NEWS

  • On Sunday at 1:45 p.m., Dakota County deputies pursued a stolen white Honda Accord (spotted by a FLOCK camera) through South Sioux City before spike strips were deployed and a police officer fired a shot that forced suspect Benjamin Horn (from Winnebago) to back into a patrol vehicle and crash into three others, resulting in his arrest.  SiouxlandProud
  • On Sunday, June 8, police ended a 15-minute chase when 35-year-old Benjamin Horn drove a stolen vehicle into Sioux City, struck multiple cars on Veterans Memorial Bridge, and was arrested—he now faces charges for eluding, reckless driving, and possession of a stolen motor vehicle in both Iowa and Nebraska.  KTIV
  • Woodbury County court proceedings handed various sentences to offenders in Sioux City and nearby areas for charges such as criminal mischief, stalking, and assault on a peace officer — some received deferred judgment and probation while others were sentenced to prison — reflecting a range of outcomes from recent cases.  Sioux City Journal
  • Artis Karazins, a 36-year-old from Lake View, assaulted a jailer and attempted to escape at Sac County Jail on June 10 — video showed him grabbing a staff member and chasing her before deputies subdued him, and he was taken to a hospital before later being held at Woodbury County Jail.  SiouxlandProud
