- ➤ Beethoven is a 9-to-12-month-old tricolored St. Bernard found at War Eagle Park on June 4 who currently weighs about 100 pounds and is expected to exceed 140 pounds when fully grown. - ➤ WinnaVegas Casino Resort held its inaugural 5K Walk for a Cause on June 14, with registration opening at 8 a.m. and the race starting at 9 a.m.—participants had a chance at nearly $5,000 in prizes to support the Last Bear Moon Pow Wow for the Winnebago Tribe, with the next walk scheduled for June 13, 2026. - ➤ Sioux City council members approved a new fireworks ordinance on June 16 that lets residents set off fireworks on July 3 from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. or until 11 p.m. on weekends, on July 4 from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., and on December 31 from 9 a.m. to January 1 at 12:30 a.m.—the rule now sets clear guidelines for legal displays. - ➤ Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signed a bill in May that uses federal funds to create 115 residency spots at sites like the University of Iowa Family Medicine Center — a move to help rural areas face a doctor shortage.
