COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Loretta, an 8 year old possibly spayed female black Labrador, was found on the 30,000 block of 255th Street in Woodbury County and shows she knows basic commands. The rescue said the friendly dog is housebroken and available for adoption, offering a chance for a new forever home.  SiouxlandProud

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sioux City Community School District will host four bus driver recruitment fairs over the summer—each from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.—to fill open positions. The fairs will be held at West High School on June 25, Spalding Park Environmental Sciences Elementary on July 9, Clark Early Childhood Center on July 23, and Loess Hills Computer Programming Elementary on August 6.  SiouxlandProud
  • New drivers learned how to share the road with semi trucks on Thursday at East High School when the American Trucking Association taught safe passing techniques and highlighted trucks' four blind spots—organizers will make another stop at North High School today to continue the safety training.  SiouxlandProud

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A heatwave is expected to hit Siouxland this weekend—residents are urged to take precautions by staying hydrated and limiting outdoor activities. The Iowa Department of Public Health reported 50 heat illness hospitalizations in 2023, and Nebraska recorded 620 emergency visits—local experts advise checking on vulnerable neighbors during the extreme heat.  SiouxlandProud

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The railroad crossing on West 39th Street in South Sioux City will close for maintenance on June 30 as Union Pacific Railroad works on the crossing and will reopen by the afternoon of July 1. A detour will be set up along Dakota Avenue — West 29th Street and South Ridge Drive.  KTIV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Three measles cases in eastern Iowa were confirmed among unvaccinated individuals—one adult woman and two children—after a family member, who contracted the disease during international travel, exposed them; all cases are stable at home and the state now reports six cases this year.  SiouxlandProud
