The Sioux City Farmers Market hosted its First Taste of Summer event this weekend on Pearl Street where families enjoyed live music, fresh produce, and refreshing beverages—supporting local vendors.

The market will operate until October 26.

After losing farmer Dana Sitzmann in a tragic accident last October, his family held an auction Monday morning in Kingsley where they sold decades of farm equipment to settle his estate — honoring his legacy.

The family leased over 500 acres to neighbor Mitch Mortiz, a 26-year-old aspiring farmer who planted corn and beans this spring and will harvest his crops by mid-September.
