CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Sioux City man, Castellanos-Rosales aged 41, was found guilty of first-degree murder for fatally stabbing 23-year-old Jordan Beardshear at her apartment at The Wellington at Dunes on April 25, 2023—prosecutors presented evidence that led to the conviction. Sioux City Journal

- ➤ Caroline Rhea—best known for her role as Hilda Spellman—will perform at Sioux City's Hard Rock Hotel & Casino this fall. Tickets for her October 18 show will be available Friday, June 27 in person or online. KTIV

- ➤ Dordt University officials announced the new names for their soon-to-open dining commons and banquet hall, naming the dining space The Atrium for its large glass walls and prairie views and the banquet area The Overlook for its high campus sightlines + both spaces will open late summer. - ➤ Siouxland Chamber of Commerce head Chris McGowan announced his bid for Iowa’s 4th Congressional District on June 25, saying he will run for the seat as Representative Randy Feenstra prepares for his governor run. McGowan, who also leads the Siouxland Initiative and appeared on Governor Reynolds’s lieutenant governor shortlist, said his campaign will start soon—marking a new chapter in the race. SiouxlandProud
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Morningside University is planning to build a baseball stadium on a 13-acre parcel along Buchanan Road after losing its home field, and it has submitted a permit proposal now under review with further discussions planned on July 7. The stadium, intended solely for the college's team with a target of completion by next spring, may see design changes to address concerns about traffic and noise from nearby residents — the university is working with county engineers to ease these impacts.
