- ➤ Sioux City Animal Rescue introduced Simba, a 2 to 3-year-old, short-haired orange tabby found on the 5000 block of Orleans Avenue—he was shy at first but is now available for adoption. SiouxlandProud
- ➤ AAA is offering its Tow to Go service—providing free rides and towing for impaired drivers—to help keep travelers safe this Independence Day weekend from 6 p.m. Friday, July 4 until 6 a.m. Monday, July 7 in Iowa. The service allows anyone to call 8552TOW2GO if plans change after a drink. Sioux Country Radio
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Sioux City group home caretaker was charged with stealing from residents after he made unauthorized purchases using their card for items such as bed sheets, pizza rolls, ice cream, pizza, chips, hot dogs, kids' drinks — and soda. Sioux City Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Ex-provost Shirin Edwin has filed a lawsuit alleging racial discrimination and retaliation after she was fired soon after alerting interim president Steve Freeman about significant federal student aid issues — the claim is now pending in court. Sioux City Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, the Iowa Department of Transportation said ramps at Exit 93 on U.S. Highway 20, Exit 97 on Outer Drive/28th Street, and Exit 99 on 46th Street will be closed at 7 p.m. for nighttime work in Sioux City. Sioux City Journal
- ➤ Lieber Construction filed a lawsuit against Hausmann Construction for work on the new Woodbury County Law Enforcement Center, claiming $153,806.89 for services as a subcontractor—Hausmann has not yet responded. Sioux City Journal
- ➤ Crews will repair the eastbound lane on 36th Street between Hamilton Blvd and Grandview Blvd from July 7 to July 11 as the City of Sioux City Engineering Division begins road work. Drivers are advised to follow posted traffic signs and drive cautiously—especially near the work zone. SiouxlandProud
