COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Sioux City resident Phil Claeys kicked off the 35th Saturday in the Park celebration this past weekend by singing the National Anthem—continuing a longstanding tradition that sets a festive tone for the event—.   SiouxlandProud
  • A Sioux City home on Van Buren Street displayed about 300 American flags on the Strand family’s lawn for the Fourth of July— the family has maintained the tradition for a couple years and asks visitors not to touch the flags.  SiouxlandProud

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At a meeting on July 7, North Sioux City commissioners introduced the Homeowner Recovery Program to aid McCook Lake residents who lost their homes last summer, offering to buy properties at twice the assessed value or 100% of the pre-flood value less demolition costs with funds from CBDG disaster-relief money. The meeting also presented two bypass options from exit four of I-29—which will divert traffic north of Dakota Valley High School and off North Shore Drive.  SiouxlandProud
  • Sioux City drivers face delays as road repairs continue with 36th Street under construction until Friday—vehicles must alternate through the work zone. The city will start a three lane conversion on Leech and Dace Avenue on September 1—preparing the road for increased traffic ahead of the new viaduct project.  SiouxlandProud
  • At its July 7 meeting, Sioux City City Council approved two agreements for the Plywood Trail Bike Project—one for sidewalk improvements at the 46th street crossing costing just over $56,000 and one for widening the Dace and Leech Avenues crossing costing nearly $42,000. Officials said the improvements will update signals and electrical lines and improve local connectivity—ensuring better safety along the trail.  SiouxlandProud
  • Sioux City City Council met July 7 to discuss a recent drowning in the Missouri River and to address public safety while unanimously approving a $5.7 million deal for two Douglas Street properties. Tri-State Real Estate Development will pay $1 to restore one building for retail and housing and convert the other into green space and parking—steps aimed at boosting local investment.  SiouxlandProud
