COMMUNITY NEWS

  • LifeServe Blood Center will host five blood drives in August in Woodbury County to collect blood donations. The events are scheduled for August 6 at Siouxland Community Health Center (11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.), August 26 in Correctionville (1:30 until 1:50 p.m.), August 27 in Danbury (2 p.m. until 6 p.m.), and August 28 in Sioux City with drives at Downtown Sioux City (8:15 a.m. until 12 p.m.) and Sabre (1 p.m. until 3:40 p.m.).  SiouxlandProud
  • The Port of Sioux City River-Cade Association named Charese Yanney as Port Admiral and Sydney McManamy-Herman as Commodore, marking the first time in 61 years that two women hold top leadership roles. They will lead the River-Cade Parade on July 16 + McManamy-Herman is the first former River-Cade Princess to serve as Commodore.  SiouxlandProud

EDUCATION NEWS

  • After a federal funding freeze announced on July 1, Sioux City after-school programs like Beyond the Bell, which serves 300 to 700 students, are facing uncertainty as they await $500k in funding. Officials warn that if these funds are not released soon, more than 10,000 programs nationwide and over 45,000 Iowa students could lose essential services—raising concerns about future access to meals and academic support.  SiouxlandProud

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Woodbury County Supervisors approved nearly $298,000 to replace one mile of road at Little Sioux Park at a meeting on Tuesday—funding comes partly from fiscal year 2026 capital projects and partly from leftover local tax funds. The board also opened bids for a new rescue truck and approved bids for a Ford F-250, with the winning bid for the vehicle to be announced next week.  SiouxlandProud
  • Sioux City officials announced at Tuesday night's council meeting that interviews to select the next city manager will be held on July 24 and July 25 for four applicants. The schedule includes a first formal interview from 1:15 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. + a community Q&A from 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., then a second formal interview from 3:15 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. + a final Q&A ending at 5 p.m.  SiouxlandProud
  • Polling locations will remain at Sioux City Schools for the special election to fill the late state senator Rocky De Witt’s seat—residents will continue to use these familiar sites when voting.  Sioux City Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ho-Chunk Inc. is building a new Atokad racetrack in South Sioux City this year near Interstate 129 — one live race is scheduled for Aug. 16 and future improvements will boost race days. Construction began this spring and the track will host live betting in a tent during events.  Sioux City Journal
