COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Food Bank of Siouxland will hand out 1,200 healthy food baskets for children ages 4 to 18 today from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Tyson Events Center — the Healthy Kids Iowa Pilot Program has already helped over 5,000 local kids so far.  SiouxlandProud

CRIME NEWS

  • A Sioux City man, Tobias Thomas (24), pleaded no contest to a manslaughter charge stemming from a 2024 shooting near 2800 Flatwater Drive in South Sioux City and will appear for sentencing on September 23 at 9 a.m.  SiouxlandProud

EDUCATION NEWS

  • St. Luke’s College — UnityPoint Health will merge with Morningside University to expand healthcare education in Sioux City. The first stage will finish by the end of Fall 2025 and the full merger is set for completion by the end of 2026, and the partnership will add programs like an accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Therapy and an Associate of Science in Nursing.  SiouxlandProud

  • Sioux City renewed its Bird Friendly Iowa Community certification in May after local groups provided details on public and school events to protect bird habitats—officials note this renewal shows strong local cooperation in advancing environmental education and conservation.  KTIV
