Sioux City posted signs last year to guide donations to the nonprofit Sioux City Community Assistance rather than giving money directly to panhandlers.

Warming Shelter and Gospel Mission officials say the move has helped direct funds to services—like helping clients get IDs and birth certificates—and they urge residents to donate necessities instead of cash.

Dozens of vehicles lined up at the Tyson Events Center on July 16 for the Food Bank of Siouxland’s Healthy Kids Iowa Program, where families received boxes with about 40 pounds of food and fruits and vegetables — another distribution is scheduled for August 20.

On July 16th, the Food Bank of Siouxland held a distribution event at Tyson Event Center and provided $40 baskets to eligible children as part of the Healthy Kids Iowa pilot program, reaching over 5,200 kids in June which was 86% of its monthly goal.

It will offer another distribution on August 20—families meeting income guidelines may collect one basket per month.
