CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Dana Eugene Igou, a 41-year-old from Spencer, pleaded guilty in January to drug and weapon charges and was sentenced on Wednesday to 14 years in prison for conspiring to distribute at least 500 grams of methamphetamine — he was found with several firearms, ammunition, brass knuckles and nearly 9 ounces of methamphetamine. - ➤ Hector Benavidez, 38, of Texas, pleaded guilty to stealing two firearms from a Spencer store during the cleanup of the historic 2024 flood and was sentenced to 42 months in prison — he will also serve a two-year term of supervised release — officials said. SiouxlandProud

- ➤ Country music star Josh Turner will perform his 'This Country Music Thing Tour' at WinnaVegas Event Center on October 4 — tickets are now available in person, online, and at the resort's gift shop. KTIV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Sioux City announced the final three candidates—Eric Swanson, Craig Clark, and Andrew Barden—for city manager with interviews and public Q&A sessions set for July 24-25 in the City Council Chambers. The decision is expected by early August after the community submits questions by 5 p.m. July 23. Sioux City Journal
- ➤ The City of Sioux City will host public interviews and Q&A sessions for the three finalists for the manager role on July 24 and July 25 (Eric Swanson, Craig Clark, and Andrew Barden will each be interviewed at City Hall Council Chambers). Residents are encouraged to attend the events and send questions by 5 p.m. on July 23. SiouxlandProud
- ➤ Disaster Case Advocacy Outreach Coordinators, identifiable by neon vests and branded T-shirts, will visit neighborhoods in Clay, O’Brien and Sioux Counties to help residents affected by the June 2024 floods navigate FEMA, insurance, SBA and other recovery services— they will work in pairs and the program will run for 3 to 4 weeks without asking for a Social Security number or photo ID. - ➤ Beau Goodwin and Kooper Ebel hosted a 712 Strong football camp at Kingsley-Pierson High School on July 17 where kids practiced football skills and received autographs, awards, and the Juicy Wiggle. - ➤ Cyclist Stephanie Konradi, who has ridden RAGBRAI since 2011, said she will join riders in battling the challenges of a 400-mile route from Orange City to Guttenberg on Sunday.
