- ➤ The Community Action Agency of Siouxland is giving free in-window AC units to Woodbury County residents with income limits or medical needs as temperatures rise into the 90s. Officials said the agency gives away 130 units each year but has only about 20 left this week + residents in need should call for more details. SiouxlandProud
- ➤ Officials say that changes to SNAP from the Big Beautiful Bill will eventually cut federal funding by $186 billion over the next 10 years and add work requirements for some older adults, leading local food pantries like the Foodbank of Siouxland and Sunnybrook Hope Center to expect more people visiting—already reporting an uptick in demand. - ➤ Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds appointed Jennifer Bennett Finn as District Associate Judge for Judicial District 3-A to cover 10 counties after Judge Ann Gales resigned. - ➤ Sioux City City Council approved rezoning for a property on 41st Street to change its designation from neighborhood conservation to public and institutional for a new church by the Iowa Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. The measure passed by a 4 to 1 vote with Mayor Pro Tem Dan Moore abstaining — the project now awaits a site plan review — and will need final Council approval. SiouxlandProud
- ➤ After the House passed a $9 billion federal cuts package on Friday morning, Iowa PBS will lose about $3.5 million—the largest funding cut in 55 years that makes up 18% of its budget—and the station now relies on community support to sustain local programming like high school sports and education.
